On 24th October 2023 at the Lakeside Science & Technology Park in Klagenfurt ECECE has presented the activities implemented in class in the school year 2022-2023 and the achieved results.
The two involved teachers presented some of their activities with the students, as for example:
The action on fact checking, rumors, gossip: the students were confronted with tree rumors about teachers at school. They discussed what they believe is likely to be true, finding ways how to check these rumors, who they could ask besides the teachers. The goal of this was for them to see that not all rumors must be true and to think critically and find their own answers.
The action on detect and unmask fake information, checking for information given in social media on the topic of Poisonous Corona Test Swabs: the key goal was to be able to find enough information and facts to inform/convince someone who believes this fake information of the opposite, i.e. that test swabs are not poisonous and not harming anyone using them – meaning they did not harm the students themselves who used them like a hundred times in the past years during the pandemic.
All the participants’ feedback were positive and both the schools and university’s representatives shared the hope that a project follow-up will be implemented insisting on the topic of dismantling fake news and promoting critical thinking so as to enable pupils to orient themselves in the world they live in and to understand, which is of outmost importance nowadays.
